Customs Passage Carnet (Triptych)
It is an international customs document used to cover the temporary admission of road vehicles, issued by the World Tourism Organization and the International Automobile Federation (**AIT/FIA**) according to the conditions of the United Nations (**UN**) conventions on the temporary importation of vehicles from 1954 and 1956.
The **Triptych** Carnet grants a **temporary customs exemption** to Libyan car owners wishing to travel with their cars outside Libya for a temporary period.
The Customs Passage Carnet is considered a globally secured customs guarantee document confirming that customs duties and taxes will be paid in the event that the vehicle does not return to its permanent registration country.
This means the holder of the Customs Passage Carnet will not be required to pay a customs financial guarantee in the country they are temporarily importing the car into. However, if you do not have a Customs Passage Carnet, you will have to pay a customs financial guarantee in the country you are traveling to, and upon the car's return to its registered country, recovering the financial guarantee amount may take weeks or months.
The Customs Passage Carnet is only allowed to be issued by member entities of the International Automobile Federation and the International Tourism Federation only, in compliance with the regulations of the UN Customs Conventions of 1954 and 1956.
The International Tourism Federation and the International Automobile Federation supervise 230 member clubs and associations in 124 countries worldwide, and the members authorized to issue Customs Passage Carnets are accredited by the customs authorities in their countries, ensuring smooth and easy border crossings by the International Tourism Federation and the International Automobile Federation.
